How Las Cruces is laid out

Think of the city in bands running north and south. The Organ Mountains rise on the east, and the closer you live to them, the newer the homes tend to be and the bigger the views. The middle of the city holds downtown, the university and most of the older streets. Across the Rio Grande to the west, the mesa climbs again toward Picacho Hills. Mesilla sits by itself to the southwest.

Most of the new construction is on the east side and in the northeast, which is why those areas get the most attention from buyers building new. If land or a custom home is the goal, the east mesa and the west mesa are where to look. Tell me which of those sounds like you and I will plan a drive that covers it in one afternoon.
